VARICOSE VEINS
Varicose veins is a condition that affects a great number of men and women. Main characteristics of varicose veins are damaged and swollen veins that rise above the skin and can be painful.
Dark red, blue, or skin toned cords of varicose veins mostly appear in legs although they can be found elsewhere. These veins may appear twisted or bulging and they negatively impact your appearance. Varicose veins look very unattractive but they can cause more serious health problems as well such as:
Throbbing
Cramps
Itchiness
Restlessness
Blood clots

Spider Veins
Besides varicose veins, a slightly less seriously damaged veins are known as sunburst varicosity and they can also affect your appearance. These veins are known as spider veins, based on the way they look. Spider veins are characterized by small, thin veins that lie close to the skin and resemble a spider’s web. They can be red, blue or purple, and they can appear on thighs, calves, and ankles. In some cases, they even appear in the face. Symptoms that often follow the appearance of these veins include:
Aching
Burning
Swelling
Night cramps

Spider veins can occur for a variety of reasons. Some of them include:
medication
heredity
weight gain
prolonged sitting or standing
pregnancy
other hormonal shifts

There are two known methods for treating varicose veins and spider veins: sclerotherapy and laser therapy. Both treatments are very effective.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a quick procedure designed for treating spider veins. In this procedure, medication is injected into the vein irritating and dissolving the inner lining causing it to clot. After some time, the body will gradually reabsorb the veins and route the blood through healthy veins. In some cases, several treatments are necessary for the best results, depending on the number and intensity of the veins.
For spider veins, about one injection is administered for every inch of spider veins, while more treatment is required for larger varicose veins. The results may be visible two weeks after the treatment, though it may take several treatments to accomplish the full results. Your body will absorb the deep colored veins and leave your skin smooth and clear. Any discomfort associated with spider veins will also slowly disappear after the treatment.
Laser Therapy
Laser vein therapy is a non-surgical procedure to treat damaged veins. Laser ablation is a treatment which does not require a prolonged hospital stay and takes about 45 minutes in two sessions. Laser therapy does not require any anesthesia as the treatment is painless. The last aims controlled pulses of light at the damaged veins. Laser ablation does not damage your skin or surrounding tissue during the treatment. The veins absorb the light which causes them to heat up and then collapse and close. Your body will gradually absorb them after the treatment. Laser therapy allows you to resume your normal activities immediately. The treatment will give you smooth clear skin without unsightly cords of varicose and spider veins. There are two types of laser vein treatment:
Simple laser treatment is performed on the outside of your skin to treat small spider veins and tiny varicose veins. This treatment is sometimes the second step after treating large varicose veins with surgery.
Endovenous laser treatment is used to treat large varicose veins. This treatment is used instead of surgery. During the treatment, a laser fiber is passed through a thin tube into the vein.

Recovery
After a spider veins treatment, you should wear support stocking for several weeks, and avoid any heavy lifting or squatting. It is normal for your treated areas to be bruised after the treatment but this will diminish within one month. It is recommended that you start walking immediately but avoid standing or sitting in one place for more than an hour. A month after your therapy, you will be able to resume most of your daily activities and your legs will look better. Your healing process should be completed within 2 months.
After laser therapy, you will be able to start walking immediately and recovery time is usually very short. You may be required to wear compression stockings for a week or more if necessary. After simple laser treatment, you should be able to return to your daily activities.
